Vol.7 A place of healing for people visiting Hadano: "Day-trip hot spring, famous water, Hadano Fujimi no Yu"

We spoke with Mr. Tomita, director of the hot spring resort "Day Trip Hot Spring Meisui Hadano Fujimi no Yu," located on the hiking trail to Mount Kobo, a popular tourist destination known for its cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

-Please tell us about the appeal of "Day Trip Hot Spring Meisui Hadano Fujimi no Yu."
The hotel uses famous spring water pumped up from 100 meters underground, and is fully equipped with facilities such as a sauna and private baths.
"Day Trip Hot Spring Meisui Hadano Fujimi no Yu" is a hot spring facility created in response to local residents' requests, along with plans to renovate the adjacent "Hadano Clean Center." Its greatest appeal is its use of Hadano's famous water, pumped from 100 meters underground. The water, containing a component called "metasilicic acid," has gained a reputation for leaving skin feeling smooth. Its use in a television location shoot in 2021 led to an increase in visitors. The baths also boast spectacular views. On clear days, both the men's and women's baths offer panoramic views of Mount Fuji. On Children's Day and the winter solstice, guests can enjoy iris baths and yuzu baths, made with irises and yuzu fruits grown in Hadano, which are also popular among customers.
-What kind of people enjoy hot baths?
Many local people visit the facility on weekdays for their regular bathing, or to combine a meal with a bath with their family or friends. On weekends, many people stop by after enjoying the hiking course on Mt. Kobo, or on their way back from climbing Mt. Ybitsu Pass or Mt. Daisen. As the facility is located on the mountain trail to Mt. Kobo, many people leave their cars in our parking lot and go hiking.
Along with the hot springs, you can enjoy the spectacular views of Mount Fuji and the Tanzawa Mountains.
-I heard that the extensive menu at the in-house restaurant "Fujimi Terrace" (hereafter "Fujimi Terrace") is popular. What is your recommended menu item?
"Fujimi Terrace Restaurant" is a space where you can relax after a bath.
Fujimi Terrace is a popular spot for guests to relax after a bath while enjoying a meal and drinks. The menu is overseen by a chef who has previously worked in Ginza Kappo restaurants, traditional Japanese restaurants, and hotels, and offers a wide variety of dishes. One of the most popular dishes is the handmade Hadano curry made with Hadano vegetables grown by local farmers. The soba noodles, sourced from a noodle factory in Hadano City, are a specialty of Hadano, a region known for its renowned water, and are popular with guests from outside the city. They are rich in flavor and taste delicious, so we hope many people will try them.

Fujimi Terrace offers Shirasasa and Kobosan . Kobosan is a popular sake that is closely associated with hikers and mountain climbers. After drinking it at Fujimi Terrace, many customers buy it as a souvenir from the shop, saying it was delicious, and the 1.8L bottle of Kobosan also sells well. Shirasasa is popular among locals. At the end of the year, some people come to buy it as a local Kanagawa sake to give as a year-end gift, and it is well-received by both tourists and locals.
There is also a souvenir shop with a wide selection of local specialties from Hadano City, including sake from Kanai Sake Brewery.
-Please tell us about the charms of Hadano and recommended spots.

Spring is full of sights and attractions. The rows of cherry blossom trees along the riverbank that stretch from Hadano Station to Mount Kobo are incredibly beautiful, and when the Cherry Blossom Festival is held, seasonal cherry blossom-related dishes such as sakura soba noodles, sakura beans, and Hadano's specialty salted cherry blossoms are available.

My personal recommendation is the "Koboyama Park Observation Deck." You can even see Tokyo Skytree from this observation deck. You can also see wild birds at the bird sanctuary near the observation deck, and in the summer you can encounter cicadas and rhinoceros beetles. In the fall, the leaves are beautiful, and it's a place where you can enjoy Hadano's nature all year round. There are hiking trails that even small children can enjoy, so I highly recommend you go.

-Is there anything new you would like to try in this area in the future?
Our store sells vegetables and fruits grown by farmers in Hadano directly to our customers, and it has been very well received. Currently, it is only held on weekends, but we hope to expand it to weekdays in the future so that customers can purchase Hadano products at any time. Hadano is blessed with nature, and local production and consumption initiatives are being carried out in various places. We would like to contribute to the community and, as part of this, promote Kanai Sake Brewery's sake, the only local sake produced in Hadano, so that people can enjoy it.
